    Hello,

I try to set the Invoicing Plugin up for tax-free export to the US in combination with GeoDirectory.

If I enter United States as a country on the checkout page, the following text appears: “The country of your current location must be the same as the country of your billing location or you must confirm the billing address is your home country.”

If I tick the box next to this text, nothing changes with the tax calculation and the invoice still adds 19% tax (as the default country is Germany and I work out of Germany).

I have added United States with 0% tax rate and set the Fallback Tax Rate to 0% as well.

How can I enable and test tax free export to the US?

I would prefer to switch the IP checking off as well. Would that be possible?

    Best regards, Markus

I have flagged your question for the team.

I understand what you are saying about export; did you give it a try to set your home country as the USA?

Thank you for the swift response.

Well, actually we did not set the home country to USA as we are based in Germany and most of the revenue is coming from Europe.

    Hi Markus,

The EU tax law is that if you (the customer) are in the EU at the time of purchase then you have to pay the EU tax unless you are VAT registered EU business, so the system is working as it should.

Two forms location are needed to be able to remove tax, we track the address and the IP, your IP is saying the EU so it is charging tax as it should.

I am not sure what you are doing here, trying to test the system for US customers? If so i use a free chrome addon “Tunnel bear” which lets you easily change your IP location to different countries.

If i can help further please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Stiofan

    Hi Stiofan,

Thank you for looking into this.

My concern is the following function:

If I enter United States as a country on the checkout page, the following text appears: “The country of your current location must be the same as the country of your billing location or you must confirm the billing address is your home country.”

I think this text is a bit confusing but I interpret the text in such a way that it is an option to override the IP/billing-location check.

If I tick the box next to this text, nothing changes with the tax calculation and the invoice still adds tax.

Would it be possible to make this override function of the IP/billing-location check work?

There would be all kind of situations where this would be necessary: Accor marketing team in Paris ordering a listing on behalf of one of their hotels in Switzerland, US hotel director paying for listing for his hotel in the US while on the ITB in Berlin etc.

    Best regards, Markus

As far as i can see its working correct.

Lets say you are in France but are ordering online for your american company, the law is that if you are buying from the EU then u pay the EU tax.

If you are in France and buying for your German company, it will ask for VAT details, filling that in and then checking that address confirmation should remove the tax.
